Exhibition “Apples of the Sun” at Kyst gallery in Dragør, Denmark. On March 15th 2025, Kyst Gallery opens in Dragør’s Old Town with “Apples of the Sun,” an exhibition featuring the beautiful, mystical works of Laura Theresia Koehler, a Switzerland-born, Germany-based artist.
The phrase “Silver apples of the moon, golden apples of the sun” from W.B. Yeats’ The Song of Wandering Aengus evokes an image of longing, beauty, and transformation—ideas that resonate deeply with Koehler’s vibrant and emotive Sunscape series. Koehler’s work explores the interplay between light, color, and the ever-changing search for the sublime.
Koehler’s stunning abstract works invite viewers to immerse themselves in a world of radiant energy, where vivid hues and dynamic forms reflect the warmth and mystery of the sun. Her pieces embody a sense of hope, connection, and transcendence, parallel to the mythical apples in Yeats’ poem—representations of the desires for higher art, beauty, and ideals that are both elusive and endlessly captivating.
Laura’s meticulously hand-painted works possess a print-like quality, where the freedom of form and imagery is balanced by a high level of skill, control, and discipline. This fusion of fluidity and precision creates artworks that feel both illusionary and remarkable. A particularly striking element in each of Laura’s sunscapes is the depiction of a single, translucent, and mysterious drop of water. Whether it is meant to be sweat, a raindrop, or morning dew, this delicate drop embodies an extra dimension, a passage into a dream, inviting the viewer to reflect on the fleeting nature of time and the idea of space.
Kyst Gallery, nestled in the heart of Dragør’s Old Town, is a space dedicated to showcasing contemporary art that connects deeply with the themes of nature, light, and the human experience. Inspired by the serene concept of 彼岸 (the “other shore”), the gallery is a place where art bridges the gap between reality and transcendence. Kyst Gallery hopes to provide a contemplative, intimate environment where visitors can experience art not only as an aesthetic form but as transformative stories. The gallery supports international, emerging artists whose works are the fruition of skill, devotion, and contemplation.
Located in the picturesque Old Town of Dragør, a charming town on the coast of Denmark, the gallery is perfectly situated among cobblestone streets, traditional yellow-painted houses, and a quiet harbor. The serene surroundings of Dragør, with its peaceful ambiance and coastal beauty, provide the perfect backdrop for experiencing art that resonates with themes of light, nature, and transformation. This is the gallery’s inaugural exhibition.
